Art Show
Supporting Scholarships Since 1981

Hosted at First Presbyterian School in El Paso, our Annual Art Show is one of the most anticipated cultural gatherings in our community. It brings together more than 400 families, local artists, educators, alumni, and business leaders to celebrate artistic excellence. This beloved tradition has celebrated student creativity for more than four decades while raising scholarship funds for prospective students.

We believe that every child who wishes to be part of our vibrant learning community should have the opportunity to do so. All funds raised through our Art Show and sponsorships go directly toward our scholarship fund. Your generosity helps provide more children access to our unique educational program, which fosters creativity, critical thinking, and out-of-the-box problem-solving skills—qualities deeply needed in today’s world. We also take pride in giving our children opportunities to cultivate their artistic voices because we value their unique perspectives.

Thank you for contributing to our students’ growth and for making our Art Show a success.

In the spirit of the Reggio Emilia approach, we view every child as a “competent, curious, and creative being,” born with a hundred languages to express their thoughts. This year, our 44th Annual Art Show finds its heartbeat in the inspiring fable of the little hummingbird.

Our theme is drawn from the powerful story popularized by Wangari Maathai, Nobel Peace Prize laureate and environmentalist. In this fable, while a great forest is engulfed in flames and larger animals watch in despair, a tiny hummingbird flies back and forth to a stream, carrying a single drop of water in its beak to pour on the fire. When the other animals mock its small efforts, the hummingbird replies: “I am doing the best I can.”

This story reminds us that no act of beauty or courage is too small. In our classrooms, we see this “hummingbird spirit” every day—the courage it takes for a child to make their first mark on a blank canvas or to share a deeply personal perspective with the world.

Celebrating Every Child’s Voice

Our Art Show is not merely a gallery of finished pieces; it is a celebration of each child’s unique artistic vision at First Pres. From the delicate, deliberate strokes of a brush to bold explorations of metallurgy or cinematography, these works are windows into their souls.

Our children spend many weeks developing their artwork. They may request special materials and choose any artistic medium. They have complete creative reign over their Art Show pieces, and it is our role to help each child realize their vision and present it with the utmost respect. By showcasing our students’ artistic voices through this production, we offer more than a stage—we provide the validation that their ideas have value and that their perspective is worth seeing.

We invite you to see the world through their eyes—a world where wings may be tiny, but hearts are infinitely mighty.
